Dr Gundula Bavendamm


Gundula Bavendamm was born in Reinbek bei Hamburg in 1965. She studied modern and contemporary history, political science, and German studies in Freiburg. From 2001 to 2004, she was a research associate at the Deutsches Historisches Museum and co-curator of the special exhibition, "1914 – 1918. The First World War. Events and Memory." From 2010 to 2016, she was the director of the Allied Museum; during her tenure there, she paved the way for the relocation of the museum to the Tempelhof Airport. Gundula Bavendamm has been director of the Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation since April 1, 2016.
She is a member of the “Memory of the World” German nomination committee of the German UNESCO Commission, a member of the advisory boards for the Museum Friedland and the Berlin Wall Foundation, as well as a member of the board on the Berlin Air Lift Foundation.
