Flight, Expulsion, "Ethnic Cleansing"
A challenge for the work of museums and exhibitions worldwide
Millions of people are currently in flight or are being expelled. Such situations cause unspeakable suffering, violence, death or the loss of a homeland. Political and ethnic conflicts and wars have often unleashed flight and expulsion in the twentieth century. In Germany, the topic of expulsion is inextricably intertwined with the issue of the National Socialist dictatorship.
The international symposium introduced exhibitions from the recent past as well as current projects. The conference was meant to illustrate the global character of flight, expulsion and integration ‒ without relativising historical, regional or national particularities.
The conference was an event held in cooperation with the Foundation Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation, the German Historical Museum and the International Association of Museum History.
