Photo exhibition I'm not a victim, I'm a survivor

We are now presenting a special photo project by Oleksandra Bienert (CineMova e.V.), a researcher and activist born in Ukraine and living in Berlin. The exhibition was opened last week as part of the conference "Flight and Exile in Eastern Europe."

The photo series shows women of different ages who fled to Berlin due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022. The war and the flight situation deprive the refugees of their usual roles.

In the foreign environment, they are first seen as refugees and victims and no longer as doctors, intellectuals, experts, singers. The project wants to counteract this and let the women portrayed in the series decide for themselves which image of them will emerge and become visible in public. The stories of the portrayed women are told in a brochure.

The photo project was developed as part of a seminar at the Ostkreuz School of Photography and implemented with the support of MitOst e.V., the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung, AgitPolska e.V. and phphotography unlimited berlin e.V.
