On this tour with Director Gundula Bavendamm you will take a look behind the scenes. Many people work on a large exhibition and contribute their expertise. The road is long and not everything succeeds. How did contentious issues affect the concepts? What principles played a role in the design? And what is the collection strategy behind the exhibits? You will learn interesting details about this.

Photographs play a central role in the memory of displacement and expulsion. In our permanent exhibition we also show a variety of photos taken at different times and in different places, by professional as well as amateur photographers. Curator Andrea Kamp explores the following questions in the tour: Who takes photos of displacement and
expulsion? In which situations are these pictures taken and on whose behalf? What happens to them afterwards? And do these photographs actually depict reality?
